Yes, but not so young. Type 2 diabetes does frequently run in families more so than type 1. Watch your weight eat healthy. Stay active. But the genes may still manifest themselves later in life. With both mother and grandmother having diabetes, suppose it is type 2 possible your chance is 20%, but you can help by keeping diet and exercise under control. You cannot change your genetics as yet. Maybe later.
Diabetes is a risk factor for poorer outcomes if Covid develops. Limiting their exposure will be in their best interest. Prevent infection!

Hi,

Yes, if they have type 2 diabetes. My best recommendation is for you to maintain a normal weight to avoid developing diabetes.
Well, you should be concerned however there is something you can do. If you become very athletic, stay slim with a Body Mass index that is below 25, and eat healthy foods one can delay diabetes up to 20 years. Thus you may obtain diabetes if you are 50 with poor habits but not see it until 70 if you stay buff. Now who really knows if you will develop diabetes if you are not as careful with your lifestyle. I promise however, if you live a healthy life, you will have a life that is much more rewarding. Best Dr. Norwood
I think we all should be concerned about Covid and take preventive measures. Your family’s diabetes should not place you at increased risk. However, you should be aware as to possibly developing diabetes in the future and maintain a healthy body weight with diet and exercise.
Diabetes patients are at higher risk of complications and of developing severe conditions exposed to Covid 19. Wear a mask in public to protect yourself and your family.
