Plastic Surgeon Questions Lip Augmentation

Will my diabetes hinder my lip surgery?

I am planning to undergo a lip correction surgery. However, I am also a diabetic. Will it cause any complications in my lip surgery?

Hello, I would make sure your A1C is below 8. As well, make sure your daily blood sugars are under control. The chance of wound infection would then be minimal. You may also visit my website at DrRoya.com for further information.
If your diabetes is under good control, there will be some preventive measures to be taken but you should do well with such surgery
Lips have very robust blood supply. If you carefully maintain your blood sugar in the normal range before and after surgery your healing process should not be complicated.
You should fine tune your blood sugar level before and after surgery, so make sure that you see your Internist or possibly your Endocrinologist. Make sure your Plastic Surgeon is aware of your diabetic problem, good oral hygiene, and take your antibiotic as prescribed. With diabetes, healing is slower, but all should go well.

Good luck!
Diabetes may increase your risk of infection associated with any type of surgery.
As long as you diabetes is controlled there is no added risks for facial plastic surgery on diabetic patients
Hi and thank you for your question. Diabetes, when it is well controlled, should not impact your lip surgery too much. A careful review of your history should help identify any areas that would require optimization prior to surgery. Talk to your doctor.
There is a small additional risk of infection and other wound healing problems when a diabetic patient has surgery, but your proposed surgery is "clean" and so your surgeon will probably simply use an antibiotic as a precaution and you should have no problems.
As long as your diabetes is under control, there should not be any problems with healing.
It’s possible, but unlikely. As you know, patients with diabetes are more prone to infections. The blood supply to the lip is so good that your chances are decreased by its location.
