Distill or purified water?

I have a disabled son, he is on a feeding tube and also has a catheter. I have been giving him "purified water". But after some research on "distilled water", I'm wondering if the distilled water would be a better choice. It seems to be cleaner water. Your comments would be greatly appreciated. My son is 66 yrs old. Has ADEM.

Thank You,
Anne

Distilled water is cleaner than purified water. Water is purified then treated with the distillation process where further contaminants and removed, but some minerals are maintained. Either would probably be safe, but I would probably go with distilled. And it is usually the least expensive, 60 to 80 cents is what I have seen.
Take care, and also ask his primary care physician.

How long has your son had ADEM? Most people recover from this condition within a few months. See your neurologist to make sure he has been diagnosed correctly. There should be no difference physiologically whether he drinks purified water (which means filtered) versus distilled water. Purified water may have some minerals in it that distilled water does not. However, those trace minerals are found in most foods. If he likes distilled water better, give him that.

Hi,

Distilled water would be actually more pure, less likely to have bacteria, etc.

Hope this helps,
