Psychologist Questions Depression

When is it advised to see a doctor for depression?

I feel like I haven't been acting the same lately. I am feeling miserable at work and my coworker has told me I look disheveled. I feel weird seeking medical help, is it something I should force myself to do?

You should seek medical attention if you are not taking care of your activities of daily living (showering, brushing your teeth, etc)
I recommend you definitely seek professional help. See your primary care physician as soon as possible and ask if they can recommend a therapist in your area.
Depressive symptoms can be tricky at times. They can be long lasting or more short-term. They can come in spurts or last for weeks or months or even years. You may be experiencing them from something with a fairly simple solution such as changing professions or scenery, or the cause(s) could be something deeper and more complex.

It sounds like you have recognized that there's something going on and it's negatively affecting your health, so I would say you've already taken the first step for seeking help by researching and asking questions.

At this point in time, I don't believe you have to force yourself to see a professional so much as encourage yourself to take that second step. Think of it more as walking down a path rather than taking a leap. You're able to do it at your pace and explore any forks you see, but you should always be aware of how your path is making you feel. you, my advice is to find someone. If you feel you aren't ready, then take a little more time, but always be honest to yourself about how you're feeling and how much help you need.
These changes are important because you experience them, a coworker confirms that there has been a change in your behavior and they are impacting an important area of your life i.e. work. Now imagine that you can finally address these feelings and changes with a professional interested in helping you address this. It would be a good step
I always say to people if it is causing noticeable distress in your life then it might not be a bad idea to seek out professional help. I understand that going to therapy can be a worrisome process, however the results can be life changing. It is important to do your research on therapists around you to find a good fit. Remember you can always change therapists if the dynamics are not working. Hope this helps answer your question.

It sounds like you are taking the time to pay attention to how you are feeling. You know yourself best and can judge whether your mood is is significantly different from the way you formally experienced yourself. Are you feeling "miserable " only or mainly at work, or do you also feel sad/depressed outside work or on the weekends? Do you feel worse when you are alone or with people? Pay attention to any differences in your eating, sleeping, level of energy, and your grooming habits. Do you find yourself crying easily? It is always a good idea to check in with your PCP to see if there is a change in your physical health that can explain your change in mood. If not, you may be clinically depressed and should seek a consultation. Research shows that eating and sleeping well, combined with exercise and being around friends is helpful. Asking the questions is a good start.

You can go see a therapist or even a life coach and even a psychic/medium. The last one is always a one time thing and it could give some closer which you might need right now. If you go to a therapist or life coach, tell them you want a one time session but the therapist might tell you that you need much more
