No! Nothing is hurt during eye exam
There are multiple different kinds of eye pressure tests, none of which should be painful. The most you should feel is a slight tickle or a little pressure but absolutely no pain.
No, an eye pressure test should NOT hurt your eyes. There are several methods to measure eye pressure such as non-contact method where an air puff (where you will feel a gentle puff of air on your eyes) is used to measure eye pressure, or contact method where a probe, dye, and anesthesia are used to measure the eye pressure. There's also another contact method that uses a portable instrument with a lightweight probe without the use of anesthesia.
There are many options of eye pressure tests, air puff (noncontact), Goldman, Tonopen, Icare (rebound), but none should be painful. Some may be more comfortable than others. This test commonly takes less than 10-20 seconds.
No. There are many ways to check eye pressure and none of them hurt.
No, it is a little uncomfortable and it will startle you, but it does not hurt.
It depends which method they use. Both methods are not painful- just feels a little “weird” One is a air puff test which is fast and easy. The other method usually requires a drop and small thing is gently applanated. Hope this helps. Just remember both are safe and always good to have your pressures checked!
No, it shouldn’t. Non-contact tonometer is just like an air puff. While applanation tonometry is done under topical anesthetic.
