Dentist Questions Deep cleaning

Does dental deep cleaning hurt?

My dentist says that we need to do a "special" cleaning and I made an appointment to have a deep cleaning at the end of this week. Is this going to be painful?

Usually, you are given local anesthesia for the pain. Needing a deep cleaning is a sign you have not been flossing and brushing correctly. We eat every day. We we pick up eating utensils. We wouldn't choose to eat with dirty food utensils. Most people don't realize they have to floss and brush their teeth daily. What you have on your teeth is tartar, dead bacteria, rotting food.... I bet you are wondering how you got into problems with your gum disease. Have you been shown how to floss and brush your teeth? By not flossing and brushing on a regular basis, this is what can happen. Hopefully, you will ask how to floss and brush so this will not happen again.
Depending on how unhealthy your gums are will determine how comfortable or uncomfortable your deep cleaning will be. Rest assured, however, that it should be the goal of your dentist to keep you comfortable at all times, and with topical anesthetic or local anesthetic available, your deep cleaning should be pain-free.

This procedure is in and of itself not painful because you will be anesthetize for the procedure. You may be sore for 3-5 days following treatment however.
Usually later....but not like you want to pull the teeth. Usually use some antibiotic pills and some mild pain pills.
