Orthopaedic Surgeon Questions Scoliosis

Does scoliosis need surgery?

I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was a child, and it was never really corrected. The doctors have been monitoring it, and I wore a brace but it barely worked. I'm not in any pain, but I still would like this problem gone. Is surgery the only way to treat it completely?

It is.
Not all scoliosis needs surgery. Depending on the magnitude of your curve, scoliosis can be monitored for signs of progression. In patients with large curves (>45 degrees), surgery can oftentimes be an option for persistent pain, progression of the curve, cosmetic reasons, etc. It is often a good idea to monitor your curve progression with X-rays every 1-5 years.
