Dentist Questions Tooth extraction

Does my son need antibiotics after extraction?

My son needs to have a baby tooth extraction because of an over-retained baby tooth. Would he need antibiotics after his extraction?

The only reasons for pre-medication are joint replacement, congenital heart septal defect, valve replacement, bacterial endocarditis, or heart replacement. If none of these then no premedication is necessary.
Not typically
Your child's dentist knows your son's dental and health history. Since you are aware of the term "over-retained," you know why his tooth needs extraction. Antibiotics are sometimes prescribed. Antibiotics are good if the patient takes the amount prescribed for the length of time the medication is to be taken. If during the procedure your dentist decides your child should be placed on an antibiotic for a few days, he should take them. Not taking an antibiotic when needed can lead to a severe infection.
No antibiotics necessary.
No
He should NOT need an antibiotic if the baby tooth is just being removed because it did fall out on its own. If that is the case, there should not be any infection present to treat with an antibiotic. If the tooth is infected, your dentist will determine if an antibiotic is necessary.
Antibiotics are usually not required after a routine extraction, especially if no infection is present. If there is swelling present prior to or after an extraction, an antibiotic may be prescribed.
It is not always necessary with extractions to need antibiotic. With that said I would see if the Dr doing the extraction advises. It is case by case.
Antibiotics are usually not prescribed for a simple extraction procedure unless infection or tooth necrosis is present. If it is just an over-retained baby tooth without any complications, only post-op instructions for pain management and wound healing will be given.
Unless there is a current infection present I would not say they are necessary. I would discuss this with the treating dentist for more information if necessary.
If there was no infection present, no antibiotics would be needed.

No, unless there is an infection, he should not need antibiotics after a simple extraction.

Patients do not always need antibiotics after extractions. Our bodies are amazing at their ability to heal and manage local infections. After an infected tooth is removed, the body is generally able to manage and heal the site. Some amount of pain and swelling after an extraction is normal. Your treating dentist may recommend antibiotics if clinical signs and symptoms of a bacterial infection suggest a systemic immune response, such as fever or malaise.

Overprescription of antibiotics is not healthy and should be avoided.
There is no need for antibiotics after an extraction of an over-retained baby tooth in healthy children without infection.
Not usually, but it's available if needed.
If the extraction is because a baby tooth is over-retained and the tooth is not/was not infected, then he does not need antibiotics. However, some children have medical conditions, such as prosthetic heart valves and other internal prosthetic devices, which require taking antibiotics before most procedures, including cleanings. If your son does not have a medical condition like that, then no, he does not need antibiotics before or after the extraction.
