Does wearing more rubber bands on braces help?

I am a 16 year old female. I want to know if wearing more rubber bands on braces helps?

Yes, the sharpness of braces decreases.
That is something that should be determined by a qualified dentist. I saw a case a few years back, where 2 young ladies came to my office for the for the first time, with two very loose front teeth. These young ladies placed rubber on their two upper front teeth, to have the gap between the two teeth closed. The damage to the bone holding the teeth was so severe that both young ladies ended up loosing those teeth.
Please keep in mind that it takes an average of 4 years of college, then 4-5 years of dental school and then 2-4 years of specialty training or continuing education training for a doctor to be trained in orthodontics "braces" that is average of 12 years of higher education after high school. Please don't do anything that may cause irreparable damage.
As doctors we try and correct some imperfections but even the best doctors in the world do not know everything there is to be known, we study and we pray that our minds and hands be guided by our Heavenly Father, our creator. Being a Doctor is a calling, a calling to serve and enhance the lives of all those around us, and in our calling, even all the years of studying are not enough without divine guidance, and faith, the faith on procedures that have been done before and the results that those procedures have brought about.
I would consult with your orthodontist so as not to interfere with his or her treatment plan
As with many things in life more is not always better, never add more forces to the prescribed orthodontic treatment plan- follow your Dr.’s plan.
Hello,

Rubber bands are the thorn in the side for people wearing braces. They are not comfortable, they make it more difficult to open your mouth, they get in the way of your cheeks, they don't taste good at all, the hooks for them poke the cheeks, and they tend to break. So, why do we put them on? The main purpose of the rubber bands is pull the teeth forward or backward (depending on the situation). This is to help with the bite and also the overjet. Overjet is the amount your upper teeth stick out past your lower teeth in a horizontal direction (not to be confused with overbite). For example, picture a person from the profile that has a very small chin. Their front teeth are going to stick out much further toward the front of their face. Wearing rubber bands will help this a little bit as well as help stabilize the way the upper and lower teeth relate to each other. Aesthetically speaking, will wearing rubber bands with braces make a significant difference; probably not. However, you can always discuss the options with the doctor who is treating you.
Hope this helps.

My best to you!

Wearing elastics will help move teeth faster. They should be worn all the time except eating. Your orthodontist will give you all the information you need about the treatment.
No, it does not. Excessive force can cause irreversible root resorption. Please try to be patient and consult with your local dentist if you don't see any improvement in long period of time. Your dentist can always show you the before and after photo. Moving teeth takes time.
