My son was feeling dizzy and I took him to the doctor who upon examination said he has vertigo. Is it possible for a 7 year old to have vertigo?

Dizzy is a non-specific word that can mean lots of different things to different people. Vertigo is the sensation of rotary (like the room or you are spinning, kind of like if you spun in a circle then stop suddenly) it can be associated with nausea and vomiting and other symptoms as well. It is possible for a 7 year old to get it, however it can be challenging to diagnose in children. A hearing test should be preformed whenever new vertigo is diagnosed. Sometimes a neurological workup or MRI is appropriate as well based on the associated symptoms.
