My mother is 68 years old and has been diagnosed with emphysema. How do we proceed with treatment?

My mother who is 68 years old has recently been diagnosed with emphysema. She was a smoker for 35 years and finally quit, but apparently not soon enough. Is it reversible at all? How is treatment handled?

The American Thoracic Society would recommend a blood test for alpha one anti trypsin deficiency. She should see a pulmonologist and have pulmonary function tests and consider a pulmonary rehabilitation program
