Pain Management Specialist Questions Hip Pain

What can I do to help with my hip pain?

For the last month, I have been experiencing pain in my hip joints. My doctor has prescribed me painkillers, but they seem to only ease the pain temporarily. What else can I do to help with my pain?

There are steroid injections and regenerative medicine options that are done to treat hip pain. Pain killers should not be the only thing offered to treat joint pain because they are only masking the pain and not actually treating the symptoms. Those medications are to be used in conjunction with interventional treatments and physical therapy. You should schedule to see a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist or pain management specialist.
Get an X-ray and rule out osteoarthritis
I would consider anti-inflammatory medication if you can tolerate them. Injection can be quite effective, as can arthroscopy. Other causes should be evaluated as well, either by pain management specialist or orthopedic surgeon.

First, we would need to find the reason for you hip pain. Ocassionally back problems can be reflected into the hip area. Also, there are many structures around the hip that can cause pain like muscles that are too tight, or even a bursa we have on the outside of the hip called the greater trochanter bursa. A thorough evaluation of hip pain would be done prior to initiating any treatment plan.
