How can I help my child stop coughing?

My daughter is 6 years old and she is coughing for the third day. How can I help my child stop coughing?

Cough syrups like Sudafed work well. But if she has other symptoms like fever or difficulty breathing, I would have her checked out by her doctor.
Persistent coughing is not normal and can be caused by a wide variety of things, some of which can be worrisome or even dangerous for your child. It is crucial that the *cause* of the cough be identified, rather than just focusing on trying to stop it. See your pediatrician to identify the cause, and provide appropriate treatment recommendations.
