Usually 24 hours or so.
Depending on the severity of the abscess, it could anywhere from 1-3 days for a patient to feel better. That does not mean that issue is fixed. Patient still needs to go to the dentist to fix the issue that's causing the abscess. Antibiotics only suppress the infection, does not get rid of it.
After the antibiotic is taken, it will take effect in 4-6 hours delivered via blood circulation.

Great question. The typical rule is antibiotics take 2-3 days to start taking effect to where the patient notices some relief. However, understand that simply taking an antibiotic for an abscess does NOT fix the problem. It may temporarily provide relief but the underlying cause has likely not been resolved and a visit to your dentist is very important.
It takes about 2 days to start working, though, depending on the infection and the antibiotic, it can take longer or not work at all. It is best to have your endodontist evaluate and treat the infection rather than live on antibiotics. If the source of the infection is not eliminated, it will return.
Good luck.
24 to 48 hours in most cases
It can take 24 to 72 hours.
Approximately 8 to 48 hours
Antibiotics may kick in within 24-48 hours after you take the first dose.
When used as treatment of a tooth abscess, antibiotics will typically need to be in one's system for at least 24-48 hours before the drug begins to take affect. This amount of time is dependent on the dosage, type of drug, and the rate of absorption in a particular person's body. Please take all medications as described by your doctor and alert them of any negative side effects you may experience. Also, please remember that dental treatment in addition to antibiotics may be necessary to eliminate the underlying cause of the infection.
