Most colon polyps can be removed without surgery. They are removed by a procedure called colonoscopy, during which small forceps and snares can completely excise a polyp. Only very large polyps require surgery for removal.
Via colonoscopy.
The primary way that polyps are removed is via a colonoscopy. If the polyp is too large or deep to be removed that way, surgery to remove that portion of the colon is required.
