Tonsillectomy is an outpatient surgical procedure. It is performed with the patient asleep with an endotracheal tube into the lungs to assist them with breathing during the surgery. Most commonly the tonsils are removed using a device called a coblator. It uses high frequency current and low heat to safely remove the tonsils while cauterizing the blood vessels. The surgery usually lasts less than 30 minutes and patients go home later that day.
Hello,

Many different approaches such as the Coblation technique. All surgery is under general anesthesia.
