I am a 23 year old female. I want to know how long can you go without tightening your braces?

As long as you want, they just won't do anything
It depends sometimes, what type braces (regular straight, clear braces, self ligate), etc. Also, the type of movement intent to achieve at any given period of time. For many reasons like wire adjustment, tie elastics, follow up, and changes. Hygienist aspect need to be considered as well. Most of the time, appointments it will be 4 to 6 weeks. Maximum two months.
You can go without tightening anything as long as the components are still intact. Any missing part will cause misalignment (force will re-distribute on the wrong tooth). Just to be sure, please visit your dentist for routine braces care (every 4-6 weeks) ensure everything is okay.
