I would consult your provider and have them do tests to see how your blood is and all those check-ups. Consult with your provider these questions or pharmacy.
Hi,

Thank you for your question. Long-term use of antidepressants may be the best treatment for someone with multiple past episodes of depression, especially someone with a history of suicide attempts or residual symptoms.
How long you stay on fluoxetine depends on the course of your depression. If you have had only one episode of clinical depression, the standard of practice is to stay on the effective dose for nine months to a year and then gradually taper, being alert for any returning symptoms. If you have had multiple depressive episodes, it may make sense to be on maintenance flouxetine; it can be taken safely on a longterm basis as long as you tolerate it well. Sometimes people also take antidepressants for dysthymic disorder, a more chronic form of depression; in that case, treatment is also ongoing,
That depends on the severity of your symptoms when you were first started and whether you became totally free of symptoms. Usually, I recommend one year and then a very gradual withdrawal. If symptoms recur, go back to your maintenance dose as quickly as possible.
You can stay on it as long as you want. You should stay on it for at least a year and take it at the same time everyday. If you decide to have a child or are consuming alcohol daily, you may want to stop taking it.
That is a question to best discuss with your primary care physician or the Fluoxetine prescribing professional.
Hello and thank you for your question,

Some people are on this medication for years. It is best to discuss this with your PCP and/or psychiatrist to see how long you will need to be on it and if there will be any negative impact to your health. Generally speaking, it is fine to take this medication for a long period of time.

Thank you,

You can take it forever but usually after symptoms are gone you should taper off it after a year and see if you stay well.
