In my opinion, well conducted general anesthesia without complications should have no long lasting effects. If the experience was traumatic, it could possibly leave the child with anxiety toward future surgeries
That is currently being extensively studied. Most studies report no adverse effects for single exposure of anesthetics for children less than a year old. Older children suffer no long-term effects either.
Most of the effects of a pediatric anesthetic are gone within a few hours under normal circumstances. Some longer acting medications may remain in the body for hours to days after administration. As you might imagine, it is difficult and expensive to study the effects of anesthesia on anyone, but particularly in children.
Children are marvelous. They recover very soon from anesthesis
