Generically, initial adjustments will last for 1-4 days depending on how severe the problem is and what each patient does in terms of work, exercise, etc. The better the problem gets, the longer it will last. I have patients on maintenance programs that are good for 6 months, some are good for a few weeks, so it varies quite a bit. Hope this helps.
It's a cumulative effect. Just like a dentist using braces, or a body builder making muscles. Your problem didn't occur in one day, so neither will one treatment.
Typically what I tell my patients is that a low back and hip issue can take a little longer to heal than an upper back or neck problem. The hip acts as a shock absorber when walking and if there is biomechanical problem of your hip the surrounding muscles will then become affected as they tighten to protect from further injury. The first adjustment will take pressure/pain down but may take a few extra visits to allow muscles and joints to perform its proper function And become pain free with full range of motion. Feel free to contact me for clarification.
The amount of time an adjustment will last could depend on many factors which are addressed during a Chiropractic examination. They can last a few days to years. The goal of the adjustment is to restore proper function and alignment to your body, which has the ability to heal itself permanently if allowed.
It is important to know that having "hip pain" doesn't mean that the problem is in the hip. Consultation and examinations need to be made and possibly diagnostic test need to be done to determine what the condition is and where it is coming from. As for time. Our office recommends the new patient be prepared to be in the office for an hour. That hour includes filling out forms (paper and/or on the computer), consultation, examination and possible treatment. Ongoing treatments include similar aspects but take less time. approximately 15 to 30 minutes in the office.
