Dentist Questions Fillings

How long does a filling last?

I just got a few fillings done over the past couple of weeks, and when I asked my dentist how long do they last, he only told me that they don't last forever and it depends on a few factors. What factors does it depend on?

Type of food intake, large filling may brakes easily, depends how many surfaces involved, also how much tooth structure left, one side chewers, oral hygiene, may have secondary decay
The average dental filling lasts 5 years in the united states. Some of the factors that effect this are how the original filling was completed, if margins are sealed, if contact is present. Additionally, diet, soda intake, snacking patterns, and oral hygiene habits have a large effect on how long a restoration will last as well.
There are many factors on how long any restorations last. Nothing will last forever. Your own teeth are the strongest and they still go bad over years of use and wear and tear. There are different materials that are stronger and lasts longer than others.
