How long does it take for a gum abscess to heal?

I am a 40 year old male and I have a gum abscess. How long does it take for a gum abscess to heal?

2 to 3 days with antibiotics
It can be a few weeks to 4 months for healing
This needs immediate attention by your dentist. One of the issues could be chronic long term periodontal disease that if it is not taken care of will lead to tooth loss! Abscesses once treated can heal within 7-10 days!
Hello, HAPPY 4th! Hope you and your family are healthy and happy!

AN ABSCESS IS A TUBE FROM INSIDE YOUR BODY TO THE OUTSIDE. ALLOWING THE INFECTION TO GO OUTSIDE OF YOUR BODY. EVEN THOUGH IT IS IN YOUR MOUTH, IT IS STILL OUTSIDE. FIRST, THE CAUSE OF THE ABSCESS (INFECTION) HAS TO BE TREATED, REMOVED. Once that occurs, the abscess will begin to heal. Now, depending on your health, for example, general health, immune system, diabetic, weight, smoking, etc., the time will be different for each person. If you are HEALTHY, I believe the area will heal within a few weeks, BUT TO BE TOTALLY HEALED, IT COULD BE MONTHS. REASON, NEW CELLS HAVE TO GROW, OLD CELLS ARE REMOVED. THIS PROCESS TAKES “TIME”!
Typically, a gum abscess is due to a bacterial infection in the root of a tooth. If this is the situation, when taking the appropriately prescribed antibiotics, it will heal (temporarily) in a couple to several days. It is crucial to take the entire 7 to 10 day antibiotic course that is prescribed in these situations.

The infection/abscess will return in anywhere from 6-12 weeks or so, unless the source of the infection, the tooth, receives the definitive treatment, normally a root canal (not painful with today’s antibiotics and anesthetic). The tooth will be prone to later fracture or fail by reinfection (usually within 2 years) unless protected with a full-coverage crown.
The abscess is usually a side effect of the underlying problem. It can mean the nerve of the tooth is dying or that the tooth is fractured. It would be a good idea to get it checked out by your local dentist.
After the treatment, if the patient is compliant, one week is a good time for the healing to start and continue healing up to a month.
