About 6-12 weeks.
It is up to her how long she will take to get back to walking and be in good shape. Mom needs to do everything that the different people on staff who are going to help your mom tell her. If she wants to have a good life, she needs to do what she is told and the family needs to see she is not allowed to lay around. The more you feel sorry for her, the more she is likely not to recover as good as she can. Some people recover fast and others take a long time, there is no set time. How fast is up to her.
Recovery from total joints is variable depending on physiologic health at time of surgery, patients weight, and MOTIVATION.

Why a total hip? Why not a hip pinning? Did she refuse this surgery at the time of the accident?
