“How long should a dental cleaning take for a child?”
I am bringing my 6 year old into the dentist soon. How long should a dental cleaning take for a child?

The actual cleaning does not take more 10 minutes but the whole appointment can be between 20-30 minutes.
It depends on the child, but at our office in Wilton, CT we allow one hour for a child's preventive visit which includes the cleaning.
Most children have a healthy oral health and their cleaning can go from 15 minutes up to 45 minutes depending on how clean their teeth are.
Hello,
A cleaning for a 6-year-old child can be variable. I usually book an hour appointment. The exam and cleaning generally do not take that long, but it depends on the child's behavior and acceptance of the dentist working in his or her personal space. Some children have no problem with this (especially if the parent that takes him/her is very relax and accepting of the dentist - which can be very hard to do). X-rays can be very difficult and time consuming for the child as well since the ones that go in their mouths can be uncomfortable and require ability to bite correctly while everyone else leaves the room.
Hope this helps.
My best to you!

Hello, a dental cleaning for a child can take up to 30 minutes depending on the case. Please allow one hour for your appointment. Thank you for your question.
Depends. If this is your child's first dental visit, then a dental intro should be done. This introduces your child to the dental experience. They get a ride in the chair, a show and tell with all of the dental instruments. A little talk about their teeth. Brushing instructions. Then finally a cleaning and exam. Depending on how cooperative your child is, this visit can take anywhere from 25-30 minutes and up.
As long as it takes. Your child could be wonderful in the chair (5 minutes) or can be acting out like the dickens, in which case it could take 15 minutes (not all cleaning, but a lot of psychology to make the experience easy and not fearful the next time).
Most dental cleanings for kids should normally take 5-10 minutes. Kids have less teeth, and usually don't get the tartar and build-up that adults get, and they don't need the deep cleaning and scaling.
A cleaning, examination, and X-rays should take about 30 minutes for a healthy, normal child. If it is his first dental visit, it may take a little longer to show him the dental instruments and discuss your questions.
