How long should you rest after hernia surgery?

I am a 39 year old female. I want to know how long should you rest after surgery?

If surgery is done laparoscopically, you rest as flat as possible the first day. After this, you can walk all you want. Just avoid heavy lifting and bending.
For most hernia surgery, no exercise for 2 weeks and no lifting >20 lbs for 6 weeks, although these guidelines may change depending on the location of the hernia and the approach (laparoscopic vs. open incision)
Discuss this with your Surgeon. It depends what happened in the Surgery.
It depends. Most patients may resume “ normal” activities within one week. If you engage in heavy lifting , wait 4-6 weeks.
One week of very light lifting, 5 pounds or less. Then, three weeks of moderate weight, 15-20 pounds. Total of four weeks of light duty.
Well, I think that depends on what you consider rest. You should be up walking and moving. No heavy lifting, like no more than 20lbs. I am guessing that there is mesh used in the repair and it takes about 6 weeks to get the mesh stabilized with good ingrowth of tissue. For my patients, I recommend that you should be up walking and increase the protein in your diet if you can do that. Check with your surgeon about this, as they may have a different experience and wish you to do something different. Your doctor should give you this advice, they know your situation better than I do.
Good luck.
I usually recommend light activities for 2 weeks after surgery. Full activity can resume at 4 weeks. Between weeks 2 and 4, slowly ramp up your activities.
