Physical Therapist Questions Knee Injuries and Disorders

After a knee injury how long should I wait to start my physical therapy?

I had a knee injury after a fall from a bike. I was on bed rest for a while and have recently resumed working. My job isn't too physically demanding but it does involve standing for a couple hours at a time. Can physical therapy bring faster recovery?

Yes, physical therapy can help you to recover faster from a knee injury after a fall from a bike. A physical therapist can assess your injury and develop a personalized treatment plan to help you:

-Reduce pain and inflammation
-Improve range of motion and flexibility
-Strengthen the muscles around your knee
-Improve your balance and coordination
-Learn how to move safely and prevent re-injury

Physical therapy can also help you to return to your normal activities, including work, more quickly. For example, your physical therapist can teach you how to modify your work tasks to avoid putting too much stress on your knee.

The best part is - the earlier you start, the faster you can get back to doing the things you love.

Yes. Physical therapy can help with your strength which would help with speed of recovery and ensure your body hasn’t picked up any habits from when you were recovering. All the best
Hi,

You can start PT right away to prevent further damage.

Assuming your doctor has not ordered you bed rest, you should start PT immediately. It will certainly speed your recovery.
