Cardiologist Questions Cholesterol

How much exercise should I get regularly to help lower my cholesterol?

My cholesterol is high. Before going on medication, my doctor asked me to take some healthy steps with my diet and exercise. Now I have more fruits and vegetables and less red meat, and I take regular walks. How much exercise should I get regularly to help lower my cholesterol?

The American Heart Association recommends up to 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity exercise. On a scale of perceived work, this would be about a 4--6/10 level of intensity. Another option is 75minutes per week of vigorous aerobic activity (more like an 8-9/10 level of perceived work).
I would combine moderate and vigorous work loads if approved by your doctor.
Increase your work load gradually.
Moderate-intensity exercise includes: gardening, dancing, brisk walking (American Heart Association web site).
Vigorous exercise would include heavy yard work (digging/hoeing), tennis, swimming laps, running and hiking uphill, etc
