This is a great question. Hair transplantation is a wonderful procedure that gives great natural results. The best part is that it can be done totally with local anesthesia and the reason for this is that the procedure is not very painful. There is some injection involved during the initial numbing process but after that most patients are very comfortable and have no issues. However, I should caution that if your surgeon does strip technique then there is sutures and pain associated with this procedure. Most surgeons now will use a follicular unit extraction technique that is scar less and pain less.
I do not do hair transplantation, but the patients that I have sent for hair transplantation have not complained of pain.
If you are considering a hair transplant procedure, we recommend that you set up an appointment your physician or a hair transplant specialist who will help answer your questions and guide you to the best solutions for your hair loss.
It is not a particularly painful procedure as far as surgical procedures go. Of course, the number of overall grafts will influence the pain level.
