My father has been suffering from bipolar disorder which results in extreme mood swings. Are there any lifestyle changes that can help in managing his condition better?

Bipolar disorder is a general term that covers a spectrum of different presentations - bipolar One is vastly different than bipolar two - issues of associated ptsd/adhd need to be excluded. Calling a mood disorder specialist and consulting a board certified psychiatrist would avoid spending resources unnecessarily. In the meantime, avoid all sedatives, caffeinated beverages, and alcohol. Also, make certain your father does not suffer from sleep apnea, which can trigger mood changes. Above all, no cannabis, medical or recreational.
