Surgeon Questions Appendicitis

How would I know if son has appendicitis?

My son is 14 and he's complaining of severe pain above his hipbone on his right side. It's been getting worse over the past couple of days. Could this be appendicitis?

Yes.
Appendicitis generally presents with loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and pain that starts around the navel and later shifts lower and on the right side, not the hip, but between the navel and hip.
Typically, appendicitis does not linger. Most patients present to the hospital within 24-48 hours with severe pain. If the pain is persistent, I would recommend talking to your PCP or presenting to an urgent care center that has the ability to perform a CT scan or an ultrasound.
