I am suffering from extreme pain in my knees that is due to low vitamin D levels. What can I do?

I am 38 years old and I am suffering from severe knee pain which the doctors have indicated is due to low vitamin D levels in my body. What should I do to manage this pain better?

Of course the first step is to get your vitamin D levels back in the normal range. Pain relief however will be slow to follow. Simple measures generally are best in the meantime. Including NSAIDs if your physician feels it would be safe for you personally. Application of ice/ heat, TENS unit application, and topical agents as well like diclofenac gel or lidocaine creams can also add additional comfort
If your vitamin D levels are extremely low, your doctor can prescribe a 50,000 Unit dose, once per week, until the levels are mid-range.
Check your Vit D levels and may need to take supplements. Try PT and NSAIDs like Ibuprofen also.
It seems that sometimes the obvious answer is the correct one; a single dose of between 50,000 weekly or 600,000 units in a single dose is indicated to correct the deficiency. Talk to your physician as they will need to order the Vit D in those doses and follow your progress.
