“I burned my hand with boiling water, and now there is a scar. What should I do?”
I burned my hand on hot, boiling water and now I have a huge scar on the top of my hand. I'm using creams to help get rid of them, but I don't think it's working. Can plastic surgery remove the scar?

Thank you for the question. The scar has to be evaluated, to determine on how to proceed. Burns have different depths and are treated differently. Definitely, I would suggest an evaluation by a plastic surgeon.

May respond to aggressive specialized hand therapy. Make an appointment with a certified hand therapist.
All scars need at least a year of maturation time. If you have a functional restroom or problem then early revision is warranted. See a plastic/hand surgeon.

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate accident.
A history and physical exam is key by a plastic/hand surgeon who specializes in burns. It looks like you have a contracture of the hand/digits that likely is full thickness compromising movement. You may need a release by either Z-plasty or reconstruction utilizing artificial skin/full-thickness skin graft or a flap after excision of the scar. Goal is to provide function and fine motor dexterity with preservation of sensation.
Hope this helps.
