There are many other stressors in life that can lead to pain in any place in your body. Poor posture is a very common one that often leads to pain, especially in the neck. I would suggest getting it evaluated by the chiropractor and seeing what it would take to correct your problem.
Lots of people have pain that have never played sports. Pain comes as a result of a long term problem. Pain doesn't usually show up right away. Pain that doesn't resolve within a few days should be checked out by a chiropractor as soon as possible.
If you work on a computer, you might have what they call tech neck. Check your ergonomics of the work station.
You can have neck pain for many reasons even if you don’t play sports. If you sleep in a weird position or with a different pillow you can get neck pain. If you have your head in one position for an extended period, you can get neck pain. Anytime one or more of the cervical vertebrae become fixated or locked, it’s possible to get neck pain. I’d recommend you see your chiropractor to help with your current situation. It shouldn’t be too difficult to figure out what's wrong and to correct the problem.
There are many reasons you could have neck pain. Everything from sleeping wrong or poor posture at the computer or phone. Obviously you’re young and you’re saying that you don’t play sports so we can rule out arthritis or injury. But neck pain is usually a secondary issue to something else like weak muscles or restricted joints. Have yourself evaluated by a chiropractor to determine the cause and the treatment should help you if it’s a musculoskeletal problem.

Typically, it is from a chronic repetitive motion you are doing on a daily basis. With no history of a traumatic event, then it may also be that you slept in an awkward position. A quick visit to your chiropractor may be all you need for relief. They may also be able to rule any extraordinary issues you may have that is contributing to your discomfort.
Have an exam and X-rays done.
The most common cause of neck pain in modern society is caused by postural imbalances (sitting at a computer, looking down at our cell phones etc). There are many videos available online that show simple exercises to correct poor posture.
