Orthodontist Questions Dental Braces

If part of my braces fall off, is it an emergency?

I'm 19, and a part of my braces fell off. Is this considered an emergency? Do I need to go to my orthodontist immediately to get this fixed?

Not unless it is poking your gums. It does need to be replaced soon, at no extra expense.
You should get to their office, especially if there is a sharp edge. Do not try and bend any wires as that can cause other issues.
Although I do not consider this an emergency I would recommend visiting your orthodontist as soon as possible for repair. The longer you wait the more tho haha will shift in an adverse way which may increase the length of required treatment time.
If it is causing pain or bleeding
It's not usually an emergency unless an arch wire is poking or cutting into the surrounding soft tissues. Getting seen by your orthodontist or dentist is an emergency if it's a non-scheduled appointment or after hours. Likewise, getting seen for a non-adjustment appointment may also constitute an emergency appointment.
No. Just get to your Orthodontist as soon as it is convenient for you.
Good day,

I recommend you visit your orthodontist as soon as possible.

If part of your braces fell off, and you are not in any discomfort, it is not considered an emergency. You should call your orthodontist and let them know what has happened, so they can determine if you should come in ASAP or come in at your scheduled appointment. They will add time to your appointment, to repair your broken braces and determine what caused your braces to fall off. The glue that holds the braces to your teeth is like glass, and like a window on a car, it can get small cracks due to strong forces from eating hard, crunchy, chewy, sticky foods. Also, trauma to the head and face can cause braces to fall off or the glue to get cracks. Due to continued forces, these cracks grow, like the cracks on a car window, the glass like glue becomes weaker, until the crack is so large that it finally fails and the bracket falls off.

There are many types of orthodontic appliances (braces). Parts falling off is always a concern and should be reported to your treating dentist/orthodontist as soon as possible. However, if it is not causing you pain or risk of swallowing a foreign object, contacting the office at the earliest normal business hours should be sufficient.
