Gastroenterologist Questions Gastroenterologist

ā€œIrritable Bowel Syndrome?ā€

A few years ago, I was diagnosed with IBS. My question is, with diarrhea and urgency that can come with it, are there any OTC meds that can help stop that? The urgency is starting to affect my work.

Antidiarrheal meds like imodium can help. The cramping usually requires prescription meds like hyoscyamine or dicyclomine. There is weak evidence that probiotics may help some people with IBS.
Iā€™m hoping that other conditions which mimic IBS have been ruled out with diagnostic tests. There are prescription meds for diarrhea predominant irritable bowel syndrome. Please ask your gastroenterologist for a prescription since your symptoms are interfering with your activities of daily living.
