Hysteroscopy is a procedure when an instrument with a camera is inserted into the uterus. It can be done in the office if it is only diagnostic under some light sedation. If there is something that needs to be removed or repaired, that requires dilation and fluid management and is better done in the operating room under anesthesia. Afterwards there can be some discomfort but most of the time non-steroidal medications such as ibuprofen is all that is needed.
Hello,

You will receive anesthesia when you have a hysteroscopy so during the procedure there is no pain. After the procedure, there is moderate cramping which is usually relieved within 1-2 days.

Thank you,

It obviously depends on the individual but the simple answer is no it shouldn't be painful. If you have a low threshold for pain ask for a general anesthesia.
There are many ways to do a hysteroscopy that minimizes discomfort. Your doctor can give local numbing medication along with you taking some pre and post procedure medications. Depending on how extensive the procedure sometimes they are done with IV or full sedation. Vast majority of patients do great and have a very good experience.
