Geneticist Questions Autism

Is autism a genetic disorder?

I noticed that there are a few cases of autism in my family, between immediate and distant relatives. Could it be possible that autism is hereditary or, genetic? Does family history mean anything with the formation of the disease?

At present they don’t have a definitive answer but they have located a few chromosomes that increase the risk. If there is a strong family history, I would recommend seeing a geneticist.
There is a genetic component to autism but there is not a single gene involved. Other factors are also involved. If there was a single gene diagnosis and possible treatment would be easier
