“Is baking soda safe for whitening teeth?”
My teeth are stained from drinking coffee frequently, and I want to whiten them at home. Is baking soda a safe way to do this?? Are there other ways to whiten teeth at home?

Baking soda helps remove stains. There are tooth pastes with baking soda in them. How many cups of coffee do you drink and how strong do you like coffee? If you are flossing and brushing twice a day and you drink more than two cups of coffee, you are bathing your teeth with coffee. Baking soda is safe. The internet is filled with natural ways to whiten teeth. Baking soda won't scratch your tooth enamel.
Baking soda can be abrasive to your enamel. There are over the counter bleaching methods but to get the desired result schedule a consult with a dental professional. It is always desired to get a professional teeth cleaning [hygiene appointment] before you start whitening your teeth.
According to Journal of the American Dental Association

“The safety of dentifrices containing baking soda has been extensively studied. Researchers in both clinical and laboratory studies have found these products to be safe, to be low in abrasiveness, to not contribute to root sensitivity, and to be safe for use by patients on low-salt diets. This latter finding is important, given that patients swallow 5% to 7% of a dentifrice with which they brush.”
So the only thing is that you have to make sure you’re not rubbing the baking soda directly on your teeth, as it can be abrasive. Using toothpastes that contain baking soda is safe.
