Plastic Surgeon Questions Nose Plastic Surgery

ā€œIs it safe to have a nose job in the summer?ā€

I am a 23 year old female who wants to have plastic surgery on my nose. Is it safe to have surgery in the summer with the hot temperatures. Does the heat increase the chances of infection?

Yes it is safe and you are at no higher risk of infection.
It is completely safe to have a nose job in the summer. My philosophy is that you should have your surgery when you have the most amount of time to recover and often times summer and holiday season are the best times to have a rhinoplasty procedure.
Infections in the nose are extremely rare. However, during the summer, Iā€™m more worried about a rash on the nose from the sun and heat. Stay out of the sun and use plenty of sun block.
Typically, you can have nose surgery at any time of the year. Your surgical day should be a decision you make with your board certified plastic surgeon and one that fits into your unique schedule. There shouldn't be any increase in infection based up the time of year or temperature if you follow your doctors orders after surgery.
Yes, it is safe, but there may be somewhat greater swelling, especially if you have an "outdoor lifestyle." You also cannot get any sunburn for at least 6 months after rhinoplasty surgery, which makes it somewhat more challenging. There is no greater risk of infection in the warmer seasons.
After surgery, you should stay in a cool environment, without having any sun exposure. Best is to discuss with your surgeon.
Good luck.
No. It is perfectly safe to have your surgery in the summer.
NOT AT ALL.YOU MUST AVOID DIRECT SUN AND HEAL IN AIR CONDITIONED COMFORT. THE SUMMER IS WHEN WE DO A SIGNIFICANT PROPORTION OF RHINOPLASTY WHEN OUR PATIENTS ARE HOME BEFORE SCHOOL BEGINS.
THANKS.
Since I practice in Scottsdale where it's 75 or above most of the year (and believe me much hotter) there is no increased risk of infection with heat. In fact, I have never had an infection in 33 years of practice after a rhinoplasty. The most important consideration is training, certification and experience.
Having rhinoplasty surgery during the summer does not increase the risk of infection from excessive exposure to heat because in this day and age there are climate controlled environments to recover in.
Good morning,

Thank you for your question. Surgical site infections, is a common healthcare-associated infection, and are seasonal -- increasing in the summer and decreasing in the winter-according to new research published.
Yes, it is fine for you to have a Rhinoplasty in the summer. The incisions are very small so the chance of infections are minimal. Hope this helps!
Yes, it is safe. You may have a bit more swelling because of the temperature. Higher risk of infection? Not at all. This is a place that rarely occurs an infection. To be honest, we live in A/C environments. After surgery, you should stay inside with intermittent local ice to decrease the swelling. Definitely a topic to discuss with your treating surgeon.
Good luck with your surgery.

There is no contraindication to nasal surgery in the summer. The risk of infection is no higher than doing it in the winter. Do the surgery when it is convenient for you.

Nasal surgery can be performed at any time, and the increased heat should not increase the chance of infection.
