Dermatologist Questions PCOS

Is laser hair removal permanent?

I have a lot of facial hair due to PCOS, and I am considering a laser hair removal treatment. Is it permanent? And are there any risks I should consider?

Permanent hair reduction not elimination. You could be under treated or over treated and burn.
Hello, and thank you for the question. Laser hair removal is not permanent. It is very effective at greatly reducing the hair and may completely get rid of the hair temporarily but you will need touch up sessions to maintain your results. If you'd like to come to our office for a consultation for an evaluation, we are happy to discuss the hair removal process further.
Laser hair removal is permanent hair REDUCTION. Hair becomes much less and thinner, it is not permanent removal. Our bodies go through many changes and it cannot be said as removal. PCOS causes you to have elevated testosterone levels. Unless your PCOS is under control and your testosterone levels are low, laser hair removal is a waste and will not work. You can even see polycyclic growth.

Hairy body parts due to PCOs is a symptom. It is more important to fix the cause of the problem, i.e., PCOs. Seek consultation with a specialist or a properly qualified acupuncturist if you do not want to have side effects from oral medication.
