Abdominal Surgeon Questions Bariatric Surgery

Is the recovery from bariatric surgery long?

My son is getting bariatric surgery for his weight, and I'm worried about the actual recovery period of the surgery. Is the recovery from bariatric surgery long?

It depends on the type of bariatric surgery. The laparoscopic gastric sleeve has the least recovery time. Most surgeries take 4-12 weeks to recover.
The recovery will last as long as the patient gets to the point that they can do what the doctor tells them to do to loose the weight and change a lifestyle or keep doing what they were doing before the surgery and most likely die young. I do wish you and your son well. oledochouse

Ask his surgeon.
It depends on the procedure. 10-14 days to go back to work on average.
Most patients stay 1 or 2 nights in the hospital. I recommend most patients take off 2 weeks from work. It typically takes about 4-6 weeks before people starting feeling better than they did prior to surgery.
