Transplant Surgeon Questions Liver Transplant

How long does a liver transplant surgery last?

I am 37 years old and I am going to undergo a liver transplant surgery. I am extremely scared and nervous. Will this transplant last for the rest of my life? Or will I have to worry about going through this again?

A transplanted liver could last for the entire life of more than 50% of the population. However, there are many factors that can impact long-term outcomes eg. primary disease, rejections episode, and medications. Please discuss with your hepatology or your surgeon to have better details about your specific case.
Depending on how well you care for it, it could last you for the rest of your life
A liver transplant should last the life of the person that receives it if there is no recurrence of the liver failure causing disease. For example, if the cause of the liver failure is alcohol. There is a chance of liver failure if they continue to drink alcohol after the transplant.
