Infectious Disease Specialist Questions Bacterial Infections

Can makeup brushes be the cause of bacterial skin infection?

I am a model and I recently had a severe bacterial skin infection. I'm on treatment for it right now, but could this infection stated from sharing makeup and makeup brushes?

Yes, uncleaned and shared makeup brushes can transmit skin bacteria and even fungi. At best, brushes should be cleaned thoroughly after each use, and never shared. Published recommendations mention cleaning brushes monthly if not shared.
Thank you for your question.
I do not think this is a likely cause, but a brush could transfer bacteria from one to another. I assume if the brushes touch only the face and hands, so unless one person has an open sore the likelihood is low
We do know that towels have been blamed for spreading bacteria and viruses so theoretically it could happen.

Yes, you should not share them and they should be replaced regularly.
