Colon and Rectal Surgeon Questions Hemorrhoids

Medication isn't working for hemorrhoids. What should I do?

I have hemorrhoids that hurt pretty badly. Right now I'm treating them with OTC meds, but they do not seem to be working. What else can I do to get rid of them?

Hemorrhoids only hurt if then get thrombosed (clotted) acutely and become inflamed. Usually a tender bump is felt at the anus. If this is what is happening to you, then see a colorectal surgeon for treatment, which may include lancing the thrombosed hemorrhoid.
Visit your Gastroenterologist. She/he will be able to help or you may need to see a surgeon in some cases.
