Naturopathic Physician Questions Menstruation

Should I take my daughter to a naturopathic physician for her pain during her period?

My daughter is 17 years old and suffers from excessive pain during her periods. I am worried as every month she has to take painkillers for it. Can I take her to a naturopathic physician for this?

You can take her to the naturopathic physician who can help address it comprehensively and more naturally so that she won't have to suffer every month and stay healthy.

Yes…. To a licensed Naturopathic Doctor
Yes, a naturopathic physician would be a wonderful option. NDs can offer a holistic, alternative, and natural treatments, as well as help, identify the underlying cause!
Absolutely! I feel naturopathic medicine has some excellent tools to work to address underlying pathology that can contribute to menstrual cramping. Sometimes menstrual cramping can be as straight forward as estrogen dominance or progesterone deficiency, and other times it is more complicated. A thorough interview and lab testing can help guide the process of diagnosis and treatment.
YES. This could become such a gift for her in the long run. Highly recommend doing that for her.
Yes, this is a great example of a condition in which conventional medicine would just use birth control pills. There are SO many different causes of painful periods and it is not normal to experience that kind of pain with every cycle.
Hello - She may benefit from other lifestyle modification processes to help qwell the inflammation that causes the pain perhaps and to also seek to see if there are other underlying factors and/or conditions that are adding to her PMS and hormonal picture. A licensed Naturopathic Doctor will be able to look at your daughter's health picture as a whole and be able to evaluate labs, modify medications and add in natural alternative options too. Depending on your state you may be able to find a qualified Naturopathic physician. You can visit https://naturopathic.org/search/custom.asp?id=5613 for a directory for each state. Good luck!
YES. I THINK A NATUROPATH COULD CERTAINLY HELP WITH YOUR DAUGHTER'S EXCESSIVE PAIN. TAKING MAGNESIUM WHICH ACTS AS AN ANTISPASMODIC WOULD BE ONE THING AN ND WOULD RECOMMEND.
Yes, you can. It depends on if you want to help her holistically or conventional.
Yes, I have seen many patients that saw significant improvement with nutritional changes, botanical medicine, and proper supplementation.

Naturopathic Physicians are trained as primary care providers in accredited medical schools. The education received consists both of conventional medicine and evidence-based alternative and complementary medicines. All the systems of the body are covered in the curriculum including Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Endocrinology. Your daughter may benefit from seeing a Naturopathic Physician who has a special interest in the system areas listed above. Naturopathic Medicine could be helpful for menstrual pain and regulation.
Yes I would for sure
All pain killers do is mask the pain and do not address the underlying cause of the dysmenorrhea. There are quite a number of natural therapies that can correct her menstrual imbalance so she does not experience so much discomfort. So I would encourage you to have her see a naturopathic physician.
Hello. Yes! Naturopathic medicine had many excellent non-drug options to address the causes of period pain. By addressing the cause, it removes the need to stay on medicine (natural or pharmaceutical) long term.
Naturopathic medicine would be a good choice. We identify and seek the cause of the dysfunction of the body - and significant menstrual pain suggests that her body is not functioning optimally. Once we identify and treat the cause, other systems of the body often respond to the positive shift as well. Rather than adding an unnatural substance to the body, we support the body with lifestyle modifications and/or natural substances so that it can heal itself, and the pain typically resolves when we do this.

Yes, this is one of my favorite conditions to address. I even do educational webinars about this. Naturopathic medicine can be very effective for painful periods.
Yes, there are naturopathic doctors that specialize in what you need.
Absolutely! Naturopathic medicine can be incredibly beneficial for menstrual pain and irregularities. There are a lot of tools and options available. Acupuncture can help more immediately as well.

Dr. Kryzia Olsen
Absolutely!! Please get her to see an ND who specializes in hormones.
Yes. An ND can find out the root cause of her symptoms.
Yes.

Dr. Liz Naturally
Yes. Naturopathic doctors can definitely help with this issue.
Yes, please do! Most docs are quick to push oral contraceptives to "help" these problems, but in reality, it's setting women up for a lifetime of struggle. Naturopathic physicians can help with herbs and supplements to balance out hormones based on her specific symptoms without administering hormones like a birth control pill would.
Indeed, find a naturopathic doctor who specializes in woman's health.
Yes! I would recommend finding one that specializes in Women's health.

Yes, I would recommend taking her to a naturopathic physician or a licensed acupuncturist, they will help identify the underlying cause of her pain (i.e hormone imbalance) was well as assisting with correcting the problem.
Yes, absolutely! The licensed ND will employ a variety of methods of safe effective natural therapies for your teen while searching with you and her for the root cause of her problem. I suspect as I am sure you do that hormones maybe at the root of her issues. Your ND should be well trained in understanding what the imbalance is and in treating it. I would also add that a well trained acupuncturist may also be a good option in this case. As an ND and an acupuncturist, we are well equipped to work with pain and the imbalance creating it. Best of health to you and your daughter.
