Open heart surgery is major life-saving surgery with excellent results. If you are a smoker you need to quit smoking, your blood pressure needs to be controlled. If you have high cholesterol or if you are a diabetic these need to be controlled before surgery. If you are overweight losing weight can be helpful.
Lose weight and stick to a Mediterranean diet.
Follow your doctor’s instructions
Talk with your doctor, surgeon and cardiologist
All your vital signs to be within normal limits, BP, blood sugar, etc. Control your weight. All medications on board. Discontinue blood thinners a few days before surgery.
Follow your physician's instructions. Exercise if you can, watch your diet, take your medications, and make sure you have all your questions answered.
