Geriatrician Questions Drowsiness

My grandmother is 80 years old and is complaining of constant drowsiness. What could be the reason?

My grandmother is 80 years old. 2 days ago she had a minor fall while getting up from the bathroom. She didn't fall unconscious or anything and is otherwise very healthy. Since then she has been complaining of drowsiness. What could be the reason?

Hi,

Thanks for asking this question—
Would evaluate grandma as followed below:

1) foremost likely related by postural dizziness
A) assess fall risk esp in home setting via home eval
B) review Med (esp BP Med) w/potential side effect
C) any vestibular issues (i.e., ENT issues; check EAR)
2) then would check other sources/causes
A) Cardiac abnormality (CAD/MI, A.Fib, cardiac arrhythmia including AV block)
B) Neuro (including Meniere’s; doubt CVA)

Thanks,

Despite not losing consciousness, might she have hit her head? Or, is something else going on that both precipitated the fall and her drowsiness? She should have a thorough evaluation.
