First of all I recommend a blend diet or a Mediterranean diet. Your doctor must do a h.pylori test to make sure there is no infection in your g.i. track. If the test is positive, he must treat u with 2 antibiotics + a proton pump inhibitor for 2 weeks, and then repeat the test in 6 weeks. If the repeat test is +, he must refer u for g.i. Endoscopy. If the initial test is negative, then your best treatment is mylanta+ Prilosec+ the above diet. I do advise a30 day course of lactobacillus acidophilus. Keep head of bed elevated with 2 to 3 pillows at night.
Lose weight, Wear loose clothing, Avoid caffeine, alcohol and tobacco products. Don't eat or drink near bedtime.

Daily omeprazole might be helpful, but check with your own doctor. Also some medications make GERD worse. Meds for overactive bladder, some BP meds, and anti-inflammatory medications for example.
