Doctor Questions Celiac Disease

What are the risk factors of celiac disease in children?

I was diagnosed with celiac disease quite recently, and I just learned that there is a genetic component with the disease. And, I'm worried that my daughter might develop it too. What are the risk factors for celiac disease in children?

There are two risk factors: genetics and exposure to gluten.
The only risk factor is genetic. There is genetic testing, but the more economical approach is getting all your children screened every 2 years with a total IgA and a TTG IgA.
Celiac is a genetic disease, so the fact that you have it means your child is at risk. The family (not including hubby) should be tested. It's better to know than to guess. Treatment is avoidance of gluten containing foods.
Celiac disease may present at any age after introducing gluten to the diet. A family history of celiac disease increases the risk of having the disease. When someone is diagnosed with celiac disease, it is reasonable to have all first-degree relatives get checked for celiac disease by obtaining serologic tests.
Celiac is genetic. Your daughter and any other of your children can be affected. They can be tested with a blood test
Celiac disease is much higher in families and your daughter should be screened with a blood draw. Do not limit gluten before the test. Recurrent abdominal pain, OCC, poor growth, and diarrhea occurs.
