Pediatrician Questions Diaper Rash

Can you recommend a safe ointment for diaper rashes?

My daughter is 3 months old and suffers from diaper rashes. The doctor told us to apply coconut oil on these rashes, but it's not working. Please, can you suggest a safe ointment for her diaper rashes?

For frequent diaper changes, I recommend Butt Paste to be applied after each diaper change. Butt Paste contains 16% Zinc oxide, Peruvian balsam, castor oil, mineral oil, paraffin, and petrolatum. Sometimes there may be a yeast infection in diaper rash and in those cases, anti-yeast/anti-fungal creams or ointments may be needed.
Try Clotrimazole cream, wash with mild soap, not Wipes.

I recommend use zinc oxide base ointments, they are found over the counter, but the most important it is to keep the baby dry otherwise the rash won’t get better and even can be developed a yeast infection

For really tough to treat diaper rashes, I recommend a combination that you make yourself.

It is EQUAL PARTS Hydrocortisone ointment 1%, Clotrimazole cream 1% and Bacitracin (NOT NEOSPORIN!), all available over the counter.

Use it 2-4 times daily (with MOST diaper changes). Any cause of rash would be treated with this combination.

No more than 7 days of use without improvement before you seek counsel from your provider.

If it is working, limit use to 14 days at a time, again seeking counsel of your provider if the rash returns or is not fully resolved thereafter.
I like to use A&D ointment to protect the skin or other barrier creams with zinc oxide. You may need to allow the diaper area to air for several minutes a few times a day to help the healing process.
In my experience Lanolin and A&D ointment are great barrier ointments to help avoid rashes and calm redness of the skin. I use it myself with every diaper change with my own daughter. They are both safe products.
Zinc oxide containing compound might help. Best to keep rinsed and dry. Candida can cause some diaper rash and will respond to an antifungal cream
I like using A+D with zinc oxide paste. It is available in the diaper section of most drug stores and grocery stores. It goes on easily and provides barrier protection.
A&D ointment or vaseline
